Bagpipes at Tingtagel Castle and the hassle they caused...
My son who is 14 and has ASD became really distressed when he heard bagpipes being played on the pathway Tintagel Castle. The team were great when they realized what was distressing him. One of the stewards went down to ask him to stop playing but even the sight of the poor man was enough to set him off again. We then had to go back to the car. The team even looked after my daughter as I ran up the hill. Dave who should deserves the biggest credit stayed with him while I went to get my young daughter and then suggested alternative route to the castle. Big thumbs up to Dave as we were then all able to enjoy the castle and I was able to see it this time as 7 years ago I missed visiting because my son could not bear to see it that time. We all had a wonderful time in the end all thanks to Dave and the exceptional team at Tintagel. Thank you so much for making it a day full of great memories and I am sure it must have been funny to see a wee Scots boy not liking the bagpipes which he actually loves as long as they are in the far far distance.

We tried to cancel our next year…
We tried to cancel our next year membership. Nobody replied to my emails. I received a letter saying "Thank you for staying with us" and confirming Direct debit for next year. When I called them today, I started talking to a lady who simply hang up on me.

English (rip off!) heritage...avoid!
I live near Beeston castle in Cheshire. I've visited Beeston castle many times before it was an English heritage site. The entrance price was always extremely cheap for many years. The large car park at the front of the entrance to the castle, used to be free to park. Now English-heritage have got hold of it, suddenly the once free car park is now an expensive pay and display and the entrance fees to the castle are now extortionate! WHY? English heritage claim they maintain these places and it all costs money etc, but seriously they seem to do very little for their money at Beeston castle and most sites, they may mow the grass once a year and that's about it! And how do they justify the pay and display car park? Beeston Castle...Another once free or very cheap site now an expensive English heritage experience!
English heritage, just like the so called National trust don't seem to have the publics interests at heart, they use the words like 'National' or 'English' or 'Heritage' in their cynical titles...
Basically these organisations take what was once free, or very cheap, heritage sites and turn them into expensive cash cows that many families just cant afford now! Sorry for the moaning, but seriously, all these old sites are now LESS accessible to many families since English heritage got hold of them?..How is this even allowed to happen? These places are now so expensive to visit! They must be making a fortune!
Take their Revenue for (2014/15) for example which was £74.5 million...so no doubt nearer the 100 million mark today or more! Thats a lot of money!
Don't even get me started on the extortionate family entrance fee for Stone Henge!..A Family of (2 adults, up to 3 children) of £67.60! I mean what exactly do they do to maintain THAT site!.....its been there quite happily for 1000's of years! It is basically a maintenance free group of stones buried in the ground! So how do English heritage JUSTIFY charging A Family of (2 adults, up to 3 children) £67.60 to access it! Disgusting!
My advice is take the kids somewhere else, avoid English (rip off!) heritage!

Family charges
So I wanted to take my family to an event even though we have little money I am disappointed to see that refugees are free and I suppose its to give them experience if our heritage which is fine. Yet it somewhat rankles me that my family who want to learn more about heritage are charged. I'm afraid you have lost my support.
I already know the respond EH will give to me and it won't be satisfactory.

Wonderful places to visit, lovely , friendly staff
We recently visited castle acre priory & the castle ruins on father's day . We had a brilliant day as there was also an event on so we witnessed a display, complete with gunfire which we all enjoyed followed by a picnic in the gardens. The priory & it's architecture is very interesting to see , as are the castle ruins a short walk through the picturesque village. The staff at the priory were so friendly & helpful too helping to make the day more special. We enjoyed it so much we became English heritage members so we can enjoy lots more places over the coming year.

Very nice little castle with “massive’ views.
The lady in the reception kiosk on the day of our visit was helpful and really friendly.
I would recommend a visit if you are in the area & have a couple of hours to spare.
Just make sure you drive up and don’t walk! It’s a steep climb.

King Arthur’s Castle Tintagel
Our visit to King Arthur’s castle was very enjoyable, the staff were very friendly and helpful. I lost my phone in the Landrover on the way back to the top, when I realised later and went back the staff were very helpful and thankfully the phone was still in the Landrover?

Walmer castle
Visiting Walmer castle recently has been a great experience. Beautiful gardens and a very interesting castle with a lot of history behind it. The gardens are wonderful and there is something there to suit all ages. We found all the volunteers to be warm, helpful and friendly. The two cafes serve great food and drink.

ENGLISH HERITAGE ACTIVATION FIASCO
Activited our English heritage membership on 12th May, 2022. Was told they would send a confirmation letter so we can start to visit places. No confirmation letter was sent so telephoned next day was told to ring Monday. We explained the situation that we wanted to use the membership in a week's time. I was told to ring back Wednesday, as it may not have been dealt with yet. Telephoned Wednesday was told the same thing again. They told me to ring back Thursday. They said that it would be put into the hands of the top Manager and they would ring me back before the end of day, untrue nothing. To speed things up l gave them our email address so they could send the letter by email, nothing!!! Has happened.

Great day out
We had a fabulous day at Boscobel House. It's had some updates since we last visited, a wonderful playground for children, lovely cafe, not to mention the farm animals and the little touch with the candles inside the house to guide you around. Well done English Heritage for keeping our history alive

worst company i have dealt with, tried numerous times to get membership, phone , emailed etc kept receiving promotion post , eventually 2 sets of membership cards arrived on same day after 12 weeks, joint membership spelt wife's surname wrong , no apology or explanation , we were told on joining we would get 15mths membership along with our discount but NO we didn't and when we asked why told you had a discount even though we explained we were told this would be for extra 3 months , found the customer services to be not interest or not customer focussed / don't care . would never recommend joining them and definately will not renew

We spent a lovely morning on Saturday…
We spent a lovely morning on Saturday looking around the beautiful gardens and house. Unfortunately, during our wander around the gardens I lost my English Heritage card. I would just like to say a big THANK YOU to the gentleman who took my details and sent my card back in the post a couple of days later. We will definitely be back to see the top floor of the house, which was closed last weekend.
